The ASEAN Business Club with the Russia-ASEAN Business Council jointly organised the Russia-Malaysia Roundtable with the theme New Areas of Economic Cooperation on 9 November 2018 at the Shangri-La Hotel, Kuala Lumpur. The Roundtable was supported by the Trade Representative Office of the Russian Federation in Malaysia.

The Roundtable was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Valery N. Yermolov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Malaysia who gave a welcome note to the business leaders who were present. Other speakers included Tan Sri Dr. Munir Majid, President of the ASEAN Business Club; Daniyar Akkaziev, CEO of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council; Datuk Bahria Mohd Tamil, Senior Director of the Bilateral Economic and Trade Relations Division, Ministry of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia and Syakella Zakaria, Deputy Director of the Foreign Investment Promotion Division, Malaysian Investment Development Authority.

Different ways in which business ties between Malaysia and Russia can be fostered were discussed at the Roundtable. Tan Sri Munir Majid stated that there is a huge potential of trade between Malaysia and Russia in several sectors such as civil engineering and technology. Members of the ASEAN Business Club had the opportunity to interact with around twenty Russian business leaders who were present on the day. Business leaders from both countries presented their business prospects and potential business matching opportunities were raised and discussed.
