ASEAN akan meneliti potensi perjanjian perdagangan bebas (FTA) dengan Kesatuan Ekonomi Eurasia (EAEU) pada mesyuarat pegawai kanan ekonomi ASEAN (SEOM) Ogos ini. Menteri Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri, Datuk Serf Mustapa Mohamed berkata, rundingan dengan pihak Rusia dan empat negara EAEU akan dijalankan selepas mendapat konsensus daripada kesemua negara anggota ASEAN.

ASEAN Business Club and regional companies expressed support for the ASEAN Economic Community 2025 Vision to realise a highly integrated community with a people-centred agenda. They welcomed the strengthening of private sector’s role in the next ten years of ASEAN Economic Community building.
ASEAN was never intended to be that deeply integrated, the Chairman of CIMB Group Nazir Razak has told a group of business leaders at Asia House. Mr Razak explained that when the Association of Southeast Asian Nations came together 49 years ago in Bangkok it was “about the Cold War and the need to pull together in the face of the USA and Russia to preserve the way we do things.”

By the time this essay is published, the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) will have become reality, an important milestone in the long and winding road to the economic integration of ten ASEAN economies. However, the AEC has fallen considerably short of the target of “a single market and production base, characterised by free flow of goods, services, and investments, as well as freer flow of capital and skills” articulated in the 2007 ASEAN Charter.
The Asean Business Club (ABC) and Kuala Lumpur Business Club (KLBC) led a highlevel delegation for a joint business mission to Hanoi to explore trade and investment opportunities in Vietnam. The business mission was headed by Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, Dato' Sri Mustapa Mohamed and was received by the President of Vietnam, H.E. Tran Dai Quang, and the Prime Minister, H.E. Nguyen Xuan Phuc and other cabinet ministers.
