Continuing tension worries top banker, THAI

As anti-government protests drag on, some top businesspeople are voicing concerns about the potential damage to regional competitiveness and the all-important tourism industry, but at least one rating agency says there is no reason to panic yet. Kasikornbank chairman Banthoon Lamsam deplored the inability of the country’s leaders to do anything but argue with one another, especially as the Asean Economic Community era nears. He compared the endless political tension to burning the country down.

Launch of Lifting-The-Barriers Reports

The third and final phase of the Network ASEAN Forum 2013 will be the consolidation of all research and discussion materials from Phase I and Phase II. The aims and objectives of the NAF was to provide a platform for private and public sector to come together and align their agendas in the common theme of ASEAN integration. We, at CARI, envision this to be done by means of the white paper report to be submitted to the relevant ASEAN policy maker.

ABC presents white papers on tackling trade barriers

The Asean Business Club (ABC) launched the Lifting-The-Barriers (LTB) Reports yesterday, a white paper outlining possible solutions to critical bottlenecks and barriers hindering free trade in the region, such as economic nationalism, labour constraints, regulatory congestion and underdeveloped infrastructure. The LTB reports cover six priority sectors, namely aviation, connectivity, infrastructure, power and utilities, capital markets, financial services and healthcare. The ABC launched the white paper as a private sector initiative to support the development of an Asean Economic Community.

Businesses want clear AEC goals

he Asean Business Club, a group of business leaders, has launched a report calling for clarity on the goals of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ integration. The report titled “Lifting the Barriers” found that while the benefits of greater Asean integration were evident, the ways by which they may be achieved was not.
